Title: things you can do from 1/2 guard or side control and various truck entries
Access Group(s): Oracle Jiu Jitsu Physical
Tag cloud: intermediate, advanced, nogi, drill, leg locks, control, from side control
Long form note:
Welcome to the new year.
We kick things off with a slight continuation from 2025, wrestling takedowns.
We left off with ‘moving up the value chain’ ie. dagastani control, aka khabib control etc.
We look at several options if you have to end up in side control or 1/4 guard.
Day 1
1. 1/4 guard: lock down shoulder roll to back take
2. side control entry to truck
Note 1: all these techniques are based on your opponent/you, capturing the ‘correct’ leg. While not entirely wrong (as sometimes, you may not be able capture the proper leg, and you’ll take what you can, in a scramble for example).
The shoulder roll from 1/4 guard to your RIGHT, requires your LEFT leg locking your opponent’s FAR (left) leg. Keep this in mind. Or simply…
Rule of thumb: (from 1/4 guard) if your LEFT ankle is captured, roll to your RIGHT. and vice versa.
Note 2: proper shoulder rolls required certain speed to swivel to his/her back
Note 3: straightening your leg lock, at the very end, will assist in rotating your opponent giving his/her back.
Note 4: if you opponent is is laying their weight (hips) ontop of your hips/torso, you’ll need to plant your RIGHT foot (releasing your leg lock) to butt scootch/shrimp out to make space, and apply that free leg to slap on top hook.
Day 2
1. Recap basics (whomever missed the intro set aside with a coach/senior student to catchup)
2. Remaining students will drill the shoulder roll for 5min, each from 1/4 guard and side control (total: 10 min).
3. Drill from back, left legs locked/hooked. Objective to secure a leg lock to truck. Repeat 10min
Winner is one who secures the leg lock/enters truck (winners knee will face 90 degree, vs losers knee will face towards him/herself) and no lock.
Day 3
From top
– from stack to truck
– from top turtle to truck
– reversing the truck (in calf slicer) to your truck, calf slicer (… ‘the trunk’):
Day 4
Drills: execute each truck entry in sequence. Increase speed with time.
Day 5 (BOTTOM ENTRY)
1. Truck entry from bottom half guard
2. From full guard 100% to truck
Day 6
Drills. Using any of the truck entries learned to date. You must attempt to enter truck. No finishes.
Day 7 (BOTTOM STILL)
3. From a more compromised situation, in side control. Truck entry from octopus.
4. Wedding sweep to truck
… (his list will be appended as the series continues in the weeks ahead)

Two types of Single Leg takedowns:
a) short distance
b) close/locked
Three entries will look at:
1. classical 1-2 drop n step (covered later)
2. far side
3. the ‘pull’ (fake guard pull to leg pick)
4. ‘tap’ forehead to no.1 or no.2
Drills:
The ‘DRIVE FWD’
Purpose: to work cardio, form positioning, finish takedown, reps
1. single leg (no.2) drive forward, keep driving unti ‘switch’ is yelled by coach at which point…
2. ‘switch’ to the other leg. Continue drive forward.
3. ‘High C’ means high crotch, where lead arm does not come in from behind, rather from front, with should in his/her gut
4. ‘take down’ means exactly that, take hiim/her down from which ever position you find yourself in
5. ‘double leg’ means that, take him/her down with double leg
– increase speed/reduce time to next action
– switch top to bottom for rest
Introduce, correct defence to the single leg, with the sprawl and top of toes flat.
The 1:1
Line up students in pairs; one on defence, one performs SLTD (do light/med/full resist).
Have students to continue to stay on toes (shuffle) vs flat footed.
Slowely increase time to next action/command
If people are having difficulty performing no.2 of entry type (far side), have them lineup in a row and perform it wall to wall. Repeat.
Alternately, continue above with ALL three entry types
Day 7:
Drill 1: Solo: shoot n sprawls
Drill 2: With Partner: shoot n sprawl, spin to back take
Two close-up attack options: The upper body
Duck under (with outside tie and collar tie)
Arm drag

Day 8:
Duck under options.
a) monkey grip to snap down
b) collar tie to snap down
c) arm drag to back take
a and b are great options if you have trouble with the forward horizontal level change motion as you can simply drop to your knees where ever you are.

Day 14 (transition to leg control to mount)
1. Classic khabib ride/dagestani control. If this fails…
2. You’ve been pushed below the kneeline but still hold a leg triangle.
– hop over again to the side, bending opponent into a shrimp position. Xface, climb up and switch to fight wrap back side
3. Opponent has pushed your classic leg triangle below the knee line delima, and stuck in butterfly
-double overs into crotch, ‘flat’ t-pee version butt drop pass to the side
– use this angle to triangle legs
– (use over x-face to anchor) to ride up over knee line
