Title:
Guard pass series
We begin with the basics of engagement.
– approaching leg pummels
– Torreando (basic)
, four points principle
. Kesa getame (scarf hold)
Advanced Guard pass
– 1. (adv) far side leg and arm press
– 2. (adv) waterfall over near side leg shield
– 3. (adv) near side leg shield arm pummel
– 4. (avd) cross face neck control
Cycle through the above four to pass guard
– 5. (Mid) gamified positional guard pass from 1/2 tee pee pass, opp waist/leg pinned and near side arm pin.
Drill through the above. Repeat.
Drills.
5. Duck under drill from head quarters (both ez and advanced versions)
6. Knee cut to arm bar
7. A quick side drill: Prevention of guard pass – seated guard retention. Hands up front to intercept, ankle attacks; find grips/2on1, with goal to attach to leg in ANY form i.e. ankle pic, xguard entry, DLR, arm drag, inversion, deep half…
8. Standing head quarters:
– high, mid, low fat pummel leg control
– the ‘wedge’ (seated and standing), seated to reverse keza getame; standing to high step/windshield/knee cut
9. Hip control: (prevent knee shield)
– a) seated wedge- far side hip forearm wedge/wrap to remove all space and prevent knee shield of far pummel leg
– b) seated head quarters high deep knee across far groin -to prevent knee shield
– c) dealing with pummel/far side leg low shield by starting standing head quarters on opposite side (right), getting in the inside of the pummel (his left) leg, then shifting to the left seated head quarters.
– d) more anti shrimp techniques: 1. The far side wedge 2. The super wedge (deep knee under butt) 3. If knee shield returns, stand and swing back opp side then reset 4. Knee across groin pin
10. Drills!! Standing and seated head quarters. Top guy hip control only. Bottom guy shrimp, post, replace guard. 30 sec. Winner is who has held their position. Default win goes to guard player.
11. Body lock/waist wrap. Near side leg is blocked from guard reset using free arm
12. From seated wedge head quarters, control pummel leg to stack pass.
13. (adv) standing headquarters 2 back take
14. Near side leg, shin pummel* (+drill) and knee pummel – windshield. *the shin pummel can be hard so create an angle first then windshield.
15. Near side knee through. Rather than the standard far side knee cut to near side (to kesa getame), we stuff/oin the near side knee while x windshield lower legs to knee to knee pin to 1/2 guard.
16. Look at the ‘rope climbing’ and ‘transfer of responsibility’ principles:
– Rope climbing: you objective is to escalate and climb ‘UP’ your opponent ‘ladder’ (i.e. body from legs, mid section, upper torso, neck control.
– X-windshield and basic transfer of near side leg control as you ‘climb the rope’ alternating with hand to other hand and/or knee cut leg.
17. Dealing with the stubborn far side knee shield:
– a) over commit: smash and go opposite side
– b) try straight arm pressure
– c) lift with near side arm under near side knee, lift to far side, pummel in far side to block far side knee shield.
18. Dealing with a z-guard (next week)
** Continue with the above ref. link for continued series of techniques.

Title: Drills break: lock switching
Access Group(s): Oracle Jiu Jitsu Physical
Tag cloud: intermediate, advanced, nogi, drill, standup, transition, control
Long form note:
Lock switching involves cycling between three locks:
1. Waist
2. Head (guillotine, darce…)
3. Single leg
One combatant attempts to cycle through each one lock at which point he/she is done. The other combatant simply resists (so counters, sweeps, submissions, guard). Switch at 3 count.

Title: 10-Class Series: “The Art of Pressure”
Access Group(s): Oracle Jiu Jitsu Physical
Tag cloud: beginner, intermediate, theory and principle, requires strength, systems
Long form note:
This series focuses on developing a strong, consistent pressure game, applicable to both guard and top positions.
Class 1: Foundations of Pressure
* Concept: Understanding the importance of posture, weight distribution, and frame control in BJJ.
* Drills:
* Posture Drills: Partner work focusing on maintaining an upright posture while resisting partner’s attempts to break it.
* Weight Distribution: Drills emphasizing shifting weight effectively to create pressure and maintain balance.
* Frame Control: Partner work on establishing and maintaining strong frames to control distance and prevent opponent’s movement.
Class 2: Pressure in Guard
* Concept: Applying pressure from guard to control distance, prevent passes, and create submission opportunities. Cycle through bottom pressure grips.
* Techniques:
* Knee Shield Pressure: Utilizing knee shield to control opponent’s posture and create space for submissions.
Techniques from Guard: scissor sweeps and hip bumps.
* Underhook Pressure: Applying pressure with underhooks to control opponent’s posture and create passing angles.
* Look at the three (3) areas of attack (from 1/2 guard). Top, mid, lower. TOP: straight guillotine,hip bump, hb2 kimura trap, reverse guillotine, guillotine hand on chest hip bump, hb2 100%, hb2 double chicken wing/full nelson. MID: arm drag to back, over hook getup to… various subs (see url), kimura-butterfly-sweep to reverse to back take; LOWER: exercise – ‘LEG HUGGER’ – this has TWO parts: 1. Leg attack/hug 2. Stay on leg/escape-submit from leg hugger. 1 minute rounds to secure a leg and stay on leg without losing/getting submitted while holding leg; Move to basics of leg entry – standing ala gordon ryan, single leg, and 1/2 guard. Look at options to 1/2 guard (under hook bump, arm pit drag/kick, bottom leg pull – then look at all options: standard front/back door sweeps, reverse to single leg x, to backside ashi garami to heel hook, to truck…
* john wayne sweep
* Guard Retention: Techniques to maintain guard control under pressure, hand fighting-leg bicep curl, neck grabs, deep half, DLR/reverse DLR…
Look at guillotine setups, kimura trap
Class 3: Pressure Passing
* Concept: Overcoming opponent’s guard pressure to effectively pass the guard.
* Techniques:
* Passing with Pressure: Utilizing weight and leverage to break down opponent’s guard pressure.
* details:
– hip2hip connection; wedge back side to prevent escape/creating space for knee shield
– walk out, elbow 2knee, walk back frame
– near side hand wedge to leg lasso
– ultimate: X face control
* Stacking with Control: Stacking passes while maintaining control and preventing opponent’s escapes.
* Knees on Belly Control: Establishing and maintaining control from knees on belly position.
* T-Pee pass (a whole sub stack series ia devoted to this)
Class 4: Pressure in Side Control
* Concept: Maintaining side control through constant pressure and preventing opponent’s escapes.
* Techniques:
* The three (3) planes/axis of escape (X, Y and Z). Keys to effectively shut down each axis using side control pressure
