Notes:

Guys,
We continue the guard series, today looking at the Torreando.
Key takeaways:
1. grip pants
2. motion same direction, drag opposite direction
3. snappy step inside, landing foot against hip, acting as a wedge
4. your calf should be bracing against his IT band of the outside thigh, just passing his knee line
5. chest out and up, looking straight to foster proper posture (to avoid lapel grab)

Title of class: sept 15 duck pass

Video 1: https://youtu.be/iymiEIxR3NM
Video 2:
Video 3:
Notes:

Guys,
The duck under pass.
Nice and smooth, entry to really effectively shut down one’s leg pummel defence and into a secure side control.

Take note:
Start slow.
Focus on where each body part needs to be
Then as you get better, increase speed.
This technqique is best performed at top speeds.

notes:
– hug that pummel leg, like you mean it. Keep it snug into the cruck of your neck
– in seated combat position, rear lead leg is on your toes to drop knee over, stapling his lower leg to the mat
– using the momentum of your opp arm, swing with one single motion your arm across his belly to land opp side (same side you started on) as momentarily both knees touch ground to transfer pivot points, swinging opp leg all the other way around.
– ensure you’ve hugged that leg through entire step
– partner repeats pummel with opp leg; rinse and repeat.

success!

Video 2:
Video 3:
Notes:

Points to pay attention to:
1. start slow
2. focus on elbow to knee connection
3. grip same side comfortably high on opponents collar, lifting back off mat
4. stuff non de la riva (DLR) leg
5. shift 6″ to opposite side, dragging opponent with you to his side
6. pin flat leg down pushing on knee
7. drop DLR knee down to mat beside opponent
8. like sliding into first base, melt into him, slicing shin bone across groin while gripping straight arm defence by elbow
9. melt down onto him
10 into kesa getame (there is a previous class on kesa getame).

** watch for knee shield using your elbow, knee and pushing same side collar grip to spread him apart, removing knee shield **

Title of class: sept25 shark tank

Video 1: https://youtu.be/u1ZacL7ZRVs
Video 2:
Video 3:
Notes:

Today, we look at a small detail of the knee slice, counter to the knee shield counter.
It’s a subtle slight of leg & foot. A very small action that is almost imperceptible, yet, has the power to shut down the toughest defences and largely goes untaught and rarely glorified, as it’s not sexy like a flying arm bar.

The rest of the class is shark tank of guard pass.

Title of class: Sept29 distance management

Video 1: https://youtu.be/NDYlFismsRg
Video 2:
Video 3:
Notes:

Guys,
Three distances:
1. dagger
2. sword
3. spear

Starting with spear is the safest from a distance perspective. You can RUN. You can avoid contact and striking of any kind.
Use the technical standup to create this space (from seated combat position).

Sword distance management is to bring your opponent into relative control distance i.e pulling guard. Lots of things you can do from here i.e. sweeps, attacks, transitions etc.

Lastly, dagger. Think prison shank. Requires real close up action. Examples, butterfly sweep, chokes etc.

Each distance is a series unto itself in topic and training.
